| Free Health and Safety Induction Packs | 25/07/2007 |
Free Induction pack for employers of migrant workers Using money from grants from Lincolnshire Enterprise and East Midlands Development Agency, South Holland District Council has produced an induction pack for small and medium sized employers of migrant workers in South Holland and Boston. This is part of the European funded Seasonal & Casual working in South Lincolnshire and The Dynamics of Migrant Labour project. The Dynamics of Migrant Labour Report published in June 2006 highlighted the fact that employers of migrant workers in South Lincolnshire required additional support for the induction procedure. The packs contain a mixture of fact sheets on a range of employment and workplace related issues, as well as templates to use in the work environment. This resource contains details on employment contracts, how to understand a payslip, information for the first day at work, training sheets for use with equipment, health and safety and human resources information and emergency procedures. There is also a directory for employers signposting them to other sources of assistance and guidance. Sue Bolter, Head of Economic and Community Development Service, is keen to promote these packs as an essential source of information: “These packs are a useful resource for local businesses who employ migrant workers and have been produced because a need for assistance with induction material was highlighted by labour users during the research carried out in our area. The packs will benefit employers and migrant workers enabling a greater understanding of workplace issues, including health and safety and employment procedures. We have received positive responses to packs we have already distributed and I hope other businesses in the area will take advantage of this new resource.” These resources are free to employers of migrant workers in South Lincolnshire, particularly small to medium sized employers, and to labour providers and agencies. If local businesses would like a pack, please contact the Migrant Worker Project Manager at South Holland District Council with a contact name and business postal address. Requests can be emailed to eholmes@sholland.gov.uk faxed to 01775 711 054 or posted to SHDC Council Offices, Priory Road, Spalding, Lincolnshire PE11 2XE. The documents are translated into the following languages: English Polish Portuguese Russian Lithuanian Slovak Latvian All languages are available in each pack. Lincolnshire Enterprise Lincolnshire Enterprise is a business led partnership between the private sector, public bodies and community and voluntary groups. We champion economic development and regeneration and are the independent voice for Lincolnshire. Lincolnshire Enterprise is one of seven Sub regional Strategic Partnerships accredited by the East Midlands Development Agency. Lincolnshire Enterprise is supported by East Midlands Development Agency (emda) which was established by the Government in 1999 to bring more jobs and skills to the regions and to make the East Midlands a better place to live and work. By 2020, the East Midlands will be a flourishing region.” For more information on the work of Lincolnshire Enterprise, please contact Kirsty Aldis, Communications Officer on 01522 852395 and/ or k.aldis@lincolnshire-enterprise.com Please visit www.lincolnshire-enterprise.com for further information. |
